A Few That Have Earned Their Spot in Our Humidor
There’s something different about boutique cigar brands.
They’re not chasing mass production. They’re not trying to be everywhere. They’re focused on craft, on flavor, on doing something a little more intentional than the big names. And more often than not, that’s where you find the cigars that actually become favorites.
Over the past few years: through events, conversations, and a lot of cigars, we’ve found ourselves coming back to a handful of brands that consistently deliver. These aren’t just good cigars… these are the ones we’re reaching for.
1. Isabela Cigar Company
Isabela is one of those rare finds that feels like a hidden gem—even after five years of carrying them. Based out of Miami with a small factory in Nicaragua, this is a truly boutique operation. We’re talking about a tight-knit group of rollers, including master Cuban craftsmen, producing extremely limited cigars with an incredible level of care.
We’ve been the exclusive retailer for Isabela in Tampa Bay for the past five years, and there’s a reason they’ve stayed in rotation for us. The Serpentine is one of the most unique cigars we’ve come across—layered with notes of habanero, nutmeg, caramel, and ancho chiles. It’s complex without being overwhelming, and every batch feels special given how limited the releases are.
The Sparkle Robusto is another standout—an ever-evolving profile that genuinely lives up to its name, shifting flavors throughout the smoke in a way that keeps you engaged from start to finish.
One of the most interesting details with Isabela is their use of sugar cane to roll their caps instead of traditional vegetable gum. It’s a small touch, but it speaks to the level of thought behind what they’re doing. This is a brand built on craftsmanship and experimentation—and it shows in every single cigar.
2. West Tampa Tobacco Company
West Tampa Tobacco Company carries a story that feels deeply rooted in tradition, and you can taste that history in the cigars. Founded by Rick Rodriguez, whose grandparents were Cuban cigar rollers who immigrated to the U.S. in the 1950s, the brand is a continuation of a legacy that started in Havana and found new life in Tampa.
Even though the company officially launched in 2022, there’s a depth here that feels decades in the making. Rick spent years learning under some of the best in the industry, and it shows in the balance and consistency across the line. We carry the Black, White, and Red labels, but the West Tampa Black really stands out. It was our pick for Cigar of the Year in 2023, and it still holds that spot for a lot of our events.
Built on a dark Habano wrapper and filled with Condega Viso and Estelí Ligero, the Black delivers a rich, complex experience with just the right amount of strength. It’s bold without being overpowering—something both newer smokers and seasoned guys can appreciate. It’s one of those cigars that feels equally at home at a wedding or a late-night conversation.
3. Jas Sum Kral (JSK)
Jas Sum Kral is not a brand that plays it safe—and that’s exactly why it stands out. Founded by Riste Ristevski, JSK has built a reputation for pushing boundaries and creating cigars that are unapologetically bold, complex, and geared toward serious cigar smokers.
Their blends aren’t designed to be “easy.” They’re designed to be interesting. The Kralot is a perfect example—medium to full-bodied with a range of flavors that includes raisins, cedar, and cocoa. It’s smooth all the way through, but there’s a depth there that keeps evolving as you smoke. The Crna Nok is another favorite of ours, offering a darker, richer profile that leans into strength and character without losing balance.
JSK has quickly carved out a space in the boutique world by doing things differently. These are cigars for people who want something a little more adventurous—something that doesn’t taste like everything else in the humidor.
4. Espinosa Cigars
Espinosa Cigars has been a staple in the boutique world for years, and for good reason. Founded by Erik Espinosa in 2012, the brand has built its reputation on consistency, quality, and a wide range of blends that truly offer something for every type of smoker.
We’ve been fans of Espinosa from the beginning, and one cigar we keep coming back to is the Crema. Wrapped in a silky Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf, it delivers a smooth, approachable experience with notes of cedar, hay, and fresh baked bread. It’s buttery, balanced, and one of the best examples of what a Connecticut cigar can be when it’s done right.
What Espinosa does well is balance strength and flavor across their entire portfolio. Whether you’re newer to cigars or have been smoking for years, there’s something in their lineup that fits the moment. The Crema just happens to be one we reach for often—especially in settings where you want something refined and easygoing.
5. Southern Draw Cigars
Southern Draw is a brand that feels like it’s built on more than just cigars—it’s built on culture, community, and a genuine appreciation for the people behind the craft. There’s a strong sense of identity here, rooted in tradition but focused on bringing people together through shared experiences.
Two cigars we’ve been loving from Southern Draw are the Desert Rose and Jacob’s Ladder, both offering completely different profiles but equally memorable smokes. The Desert Rose leans medium-bodied with notes of spice, cedar, and cream. It’s smooth, balanced, and incredibly easy to enjoy—especially in a relaxed setting where you can take your time with it.
Jacob’s Ladder, on the other hand, brings a much richer and more intense experience. With a Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers, it delivers notes of black cherry, espresso, molasses, and cracked pepper. It’s bold, layered, and one of the most flavorful cigars in their lineup. Together, these two represent the range Southern Draw is capable of—and why they’ve earned a place in our rotation.
A Different Kind of Cigar Experience
At the end of the day, what we’re drawn to with these brands isn’t just flavor—it’s intention. Each of these companies is doing something a little different. Smaller batches. Unique blends. A focus on craft over scale. And that’s exactly what we want to bring into the events we’re a part of.
If you’ve been to one of our setups, there’s a good chance you’ve already experienced a few of these. If not… we’ll fix that.
